We’re glad your enjoying Unite As One and interested to become a user. Here’s what you need to know and accept to be a part of this community.

First of All

If you are a bot or a troll, give up now. This community is not for you. If you do manage to become a member, you will be removed soon enough as your behaviour and motives become known.

If you describe yourself as a deeply religious person who is convinced that if everyone else just thought more (or exactly) like you then this whole world would be a better place, you probably won’t find a welcome home here.

If you describe yourself as a strict athiest or secularist who is convinced that if everyone gave up on their faith, beliefs, spirituality, or religion this whole world would also be a better place, please go find some people from the religious people identified above and find happiness together.

Now that that’s out of the way…

Community Culture

There exists in many of us a deep, visceral longing for some sort of spiritual or existential perspective that tries to make sense out of life and which gives our lives more complete and deeper meanings. This can be true even for people who do not identify with any religious or spiritual tradition.

UniteAsOne affirms the intrinsic value of every person. All people, regardless of their race, gender, faith, sexual orientation or identity, class, abilities, age, ethnicity, heritage, or past behaviour are valued and affirmed. This requires us to:

  1. Strive for peace and justice among and for all people.
  2. Protect and work to restore the integrity of our Earth, its ecology and environments, for it is our only home.
  3. Behave towards others in consistency with what we affirm.
  4. We will respect and value all the people whom we encounter as we travel the landscapes of life.

People can only reach their full potential with a healthy dose of love, affirmation, acceptance, support, and understanding. We try to provide these things in good measure.

Drawing from our diversity, we find wisdom and strength for our spiritual and life journeys. Our ability to see problems from different lenses arising from our unique heritage, gender, upbringing, personalities, values, and skills provides us with better solutions than we find through uniformity and homogeneity.

There is more value in questioning than in absolutes. Rational, meaningful discourse involves a healthy amount of listening but also reliance on: empathy, logic, and scientific research and findings. Digital and information literacy is an important tool in interpreting and constructively understanding our world today.

The “ancient wisdoms” of faiths and traditions may still have value for our modern times, even if they are not the ones we identify with.

Members’ Agreement

We are accountable for our interactions with each other. The following norms will be used to ensure we are constructive and affirming of each other:

  1. We can criticize and challenge an idea but we must not condemn, insult, or criticize the person holding or expressing an idea;
  2. We will respect and value all the people in this community, even if we don’t feel a strong personal attachment together.
  3. We will listen as well as share. We can enjoy a good conversation without having to have an opinion on everything or a response for everyone.

If we feel that other members have violated a norm, we are free to message or respond to them. Or we can reach out to an administrator for help in responding to them.
